International Women’s Day

Revival of the Feminine

For hundreds of years, it was common for women to come together and support each other in the unfolding stories of their lives. Women were present for each other during the birth of their children, at the time of menstruation, in the practice of worship or devotion, when cooking, sewing and in raising each other’s children. They would share their stories of inspiration and triumph as well as hardship and despair. They would laugh together, cry together and grieve together, surviving the most impossible of hardships with the support and understanding of the women around them.

Over the course of history, we’ve lost touch with many of these ancient practices of genuine interconnection. We have become individuated, living separate lives in independent spaces, often lonely and in search of a greater sense of connection and understanding.

At The Sound Temple we are committed to being part of a REVIVAL – a global remembering of Sisterhood and celebration of the Feminine.

We are passionate about creating spaces that support the collaboration of women, working together, and offering their unique gifts to the world. We celebrate and honour many of the dedicated female artists, musicians, healers, storytellers, teachers and creatives that live and work within our communities.

Whether it be our monthly New Moon Women’s Circles, our Children’s Sound Healing sessions, our family friendly Kirtan events, our Slow Stitching workshops or the many original Art Exhibitions that have graced our walls over the last twelve months, we are committed to providing supportive opportunities for women in our community to come together, to shine and share their incredible gifts with one another.

International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th March and recognises the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women all around the world. We are joining this international collective in celebrating the diversity of women and their right to safety, respect and equality in all that they do. We honour the incredible variety of shapes, sizes, colours, shades, moods and attitudes that women inhabit. We champion their resilience and courage. We recognise their softness and their strength. And we celebrate their remarkable depth of CREATIVITY – whether it be in the form of a tiny human being, a beautiful meal, a soulful piece of art or a good conversation.

At The Sound Temple we are consistently opening up a dialogue of appreciation with the women in our lives and in our communities –  and we’re encouraging you to do the same. Let’s continue to show our strong advocacy and support for rising of the Feminine in every way we can.

In honor of International Women’s Day, for the month of March, we’ll be donating $5 from the sale of Oprah Winfrey’s latest book, The Wisdom of Sundays, to Koolkuna, a local women’s refuge.
