Anandra George

The Yoga of Sound – Tuning Your Instrument Sessions

We’ll explore practical applications of the yoga of sound for personal transformation. Our goal is to support you in pragmatic and profound ways to fall more deeply in love with your practice.

  • Voice culture using Indian vocal meditation techniques
  • Sacred sound and the 4 levels of speech
  • Sanskrit Mantra and mental digestion, using the mind as a vehicle for cosmic impulse
  • Sound-based yoga practices for harmonising and nourishing all of our bodies: physical, breath, mental, identity and bliss (sound-based Yoga and the 5 Kośas)
Afternoon classes during the workshop will be a time to dive into how sound-based yoga works (from a tantric non-dual philosophical basis) and ask Anandra questions. Extensive multi-media learning resources are included for your ongoing self-study.

Chant Experience – Kīrtan from the Heart of Sound Session

A taste of the divine archetypal forms of the Sanskrit sound vibrations and experience a refined new dimension of mantra chanting as devotional kīrtan set to Indian classical rāgas! This event will be open to guests outside of the workshop and we will conclude the evening with a meal which will be provided.

Sound Bath – Mantras for Peace Session

Relax, reset, and integrate your expansive Heart of Sound workshop experience with crystal bowls while you enjoy passive yin yogāsana shapes. We’ll rejuvenate together in a deep, sweet silence and make a final offering of mantras for peace.

Anandra George is a pioneer in the global yoga community, re-introducing the ancient practice of sound as a fundamental practice. She created the world’s first registered yoga teacher training based entirely on the transformational power of sound (including Sanskrit, mantra, Indian classical vocal meditation, and non-violent communication for everyday life). American by birth, Indian by soul, and global citizen by expression, she helps people transform their limiting belief systems and cultivate their most fulfilling contribution to the world.

She divides her time between India, Japan, and on Kaua’i island, Hawaii, and teaches mantra workshops and intensives worldwide. For more than 20 years, she’s been on “the path” and has been teaching and seeing private clients globally since 1999.

An internationally respected mantra teacher and sacred musician, she is frequently invited to teach and lead chanting/kīrtan at the world’s largest yoga festivals. Her students from online meditation groups, workshops, and teacher trainings speak highly about their experiences.

More about Yogi Dev:

Dev Singh was born in Chandigarh, northern India. His early childhood was strongly influenced by various classical Indian music gurus and at the age of twelve, he started his musicology studies. He has followed the ancient tradition of Guru-Shishya system (an intimate master-student relationship), in which the Guru passes knowledge through the spiritual, intellectual and emotional bond between them.

This early education included the history of Indian classical music and understanding the complex rhythmic and melodic structures (called Ragas). Across his learning years, Dev Singh’s teachers (Gurus) introduced him to spiritual and healing aspects of Indian classical music, which included music (Nada, Mantras) and meditative (Dhyana) Yoga.

We are blessed to have Yogi Dev join us at The Sound Temple to share his gifts of Nada Yoga as part of our team who currently host Vedic Chant, Kirtan, Yoga Nidra, Nada Yoga, Indulgence Retreats, Satsang and special events.

Magical Indian Raga Based Classical Music and Chanting

Join us inside The Sound Temple to experience Kirtan in a most magical form. This style of Bhakti Yoga is brought to you by Yogi Dev Singh who shares this practice in it’s traditional form.
These sessions are limited to small groups so that you receive the best vibrational and learning experience. If you are yearning to learn more about classical Indian musical instruments and how the moods called ‘raga’s’ interplay with our chakra systems then please commit to these devotional events.

Yogi Dev will share the knowledge and the layers of dimensional meanings behind the chants, this is a wonderful way to explore sound yoga in a pure form.
Bhakti Yoga is known as the Yoga of Devotion, also explained as the longing to the Divine.
The devotion can be to the truth, God, the Supreme, Brahman, the absolute reality or any other name that you want to call the ineffable. The specific form is unimportant. It is the devotion/longing that you personally feel that is essential. Without this devotion, whether great or small, it is impossible to practice Bhakti yoga.

Kirtan is one of the tools been used to practice Bhakti yoga. It is non-denominational, the universal language of the heart, the song of the union. Chanting sacred hymns has a method and structure. Traditionally Bhakti Kirtan is done using Indian classical music instruments and Raga system as defined in Indian classical music. ‘Raga’ means ‘mood’, and each raga evokes its characteristic emotional state by employing a particular combination of notes with rules of tone and emphasis.

The practice of Bhakti yoga can lead to complete immersion in the sound and vibrations, with nothing to distract the mind. The magic of chanting the sacred hymns can then carry you inward to listen to your Inner sound.

Chanting and vibrating is the core of Bhakti yoga, and no one cares what you sound like. The magic of vibrating and chanting comes alive when all the voices merge together to become one voice. This union of voices and frequencies will help the seeker to go inward and improve his/her level of awareness.

Yogi Dev Singh will explain the multi-dimensional meaning of Sacred hymns and guide the seekers through the path of chanting/vibrating sacred hymns in the prescribed raga.
Conscious seekers should eat vegetarian meals on the day and should use a head cover while chanting.

We eat together after the practice so if you could please bring along a vegetarian meal to share that would be wonderful.
