HANDS ON WORKSHOP
A family heirloom is a direct connection to your history and if you already possess a family heirloom, it’s no doubt you treasure it.

But what if you could create a family heirloom to be passed on to your loved ones in the future?

There is a sense of joy in giving and receiving something handcrafted, repurposed or containing a component from an old, broken family heirloom. The history and meaning are elevated by the materials used and by the care and thoughtfulness which has gone into creating it.

Create an Heirloom to TreasureRather than buying mass-produced jewellery, often using recycled pearls and beads, you will be able to create a unique piece which you can wear yourself, gift to someone special and, in time, know that it may be passed on through generations to come.

In this workshop conducted by Perth Hills jewellery designer, Denise Binz, you will be shown the basics of forming wire and earring hooks and combining them with beautiful beads and crystals to make the components to create your own special pair of earrings or pendant.

All materials are provided, however, if you have some treasured beads, crystals or stones from an heirloom you have been gifted, please brings them along.

During this hand-on workshop, Denise will show you:

    Create an Heirloom to Treasure
  • Safety guidelines and the “how to”” when using wire, pliers, bench block and hammer.
  • How to make and then practice different types of earring hooks, simple eye-pins and twisted loops with copper wire which will enable you to decide what suits you.
  • A selection of “bead and wire” kits. You can choose a kit which appeals to you before you start to make your own unique piece of jewellery – either a pair of earrings or a pendant.

Once you get started and find that you love creating your very own heirloom jewellery and want to go home and make more, the essential 3 plier sets will be available to buy.

Denise Binz is one part of a Perth Hills husband-and-wife duo who discovered together that they had a talent for jewellery design.

Denise Binz - Common Threads Woven Through CommunityDenise and her husband Alain took part in silver and lapidary courses which allowed them to see limitless potential in the variety of uses and combinations of silver and stone and metals and wood.

Inspired by the surrounding nature of the Hills where they now have their home and studios, they find themselves spending every available hour creating magical pieces to share with the world.

Denise is a Reiki Master and a Sound and Crystal Healer and she hand-selects all crystals for their energetic offerings before being cleansed and transformed into a piece of magical jewellery and put out into The Universe to find their way to their new owners.
