Workshop on Storytelling and Voice with International Artist
We are delighted to be able to introduce Slovenian Storyteller Ljoba Jence who has been a collector of Slovene oral tradition for thirty years.
She is a superb performer, combining story and song to create layers of rich soulfood. This is her first time in Australia, although she has toured much of the world.
This 5 Hour workshop is a one-off event and should not be missed.
Here are some of Ljoba’s own words which will speak to you if you are already a storyteller and would like to tap into the magic of voice and speech which Ljoba will share at the workshop. Or if you are someone who loves story and recognises that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from an international artist who has travelled far and wide telling ancient Slovenian myths and stories.
“A Storyteller is an artist of many languages.
Beside the vast imagery world that she or he creates and tells through speaking, with the physical and emotional body, inner feelings and with as many a tools brought to the stage as the outer support to the telling, the most important is the full presence of a storyteller.
To some, it is given by birth but for most, we need to work consciously on our development for many years of devoted learning and practicing telling live.
We will learn one or more Slovenian stories and work on such skills. Most of the work would be to support the deepening and colouring the sound of our voice and speech”.
Ljoba Jenče is a singer and storyteller with experience in collecting oral tradition among people who are carriers of knowledge and wisdom. She has travelled performing in nearly half of the world … from Tibet to Alexandria in Egypt, from Argentina to Canada and along Europe Ljoba has been singing and telling Slovenian old myths and stories.
The most important event that has made her choose this path was a moment when she recognised that while singing old songs in nature she felt the intense response of the elements and beings danced and enlivened the environment where the song was sang or the story was told.
She realised that stories and songs were not only for human beings but for the whole of creation which responds to the spoken or sung word.
Conscious speaking or formation of voice and its sounding became Ljoba’s main role and she is happy to explore those worlds with you whilst supporting and uncovering the fuller voice, its colours and many possibilities of expressions.
She is deeply inspired by the work of Rudolf Steiner and the knowledge of speech formation and eurythmy that he gave to humanity a hundred years ago. Ljoba is on a research of zodiac beings and connected sounds in our language.
