Common Threads Woven Through Community - Fun Felted Soaps

Hands on Workshop

Felted before? New to this rewarding process? Warm soapy water, natural fibre and a great fun way to spend a couple of hours! Not to mention that your soap magically last months longer and saves the planet!

The process of felting is such a tactile experience, squeezing, rinsing, rubbing and can be a very rewarding and satisfying experience.
Felted soaps are energising to use in the bath or shower and a wonderful way to prevent soap from going mushy or being lost down the drain not to mention how fun they are to make!

Keep your beautiful soap lasting months longer and enjoy the added benefits of how they softly exfoliate your skin. These unique and attractive soaps also make much-loved gifts for friends and family. Using the wet felting method Kim will guide participants in felting merino wool to create a snug fit around your soap bars. There is also an opportunity to embellish with patterns and silk threads to add some extra colour.

The soap bars that will be felt wrapped are all natural, handmade soap sourced locally from Western Australia.

Everyone will learn about the best types of soaps and wool to use, the most effective wrapping and forming technique. Each participant will leave with two handmade soaps for your family as gifts or to keep to use at home.

Kim Gordon joins the Common Threads TeamKim Gordon lives right here in the Perth Hills. Kim first learned to felt about 10 years ago and fell in love with it. Ever since she was a young girl she loved the fibres of different fabrics which she reflects may have come from her mother and grandmother teaching her how to knit and crochet using many different wools and cotton.

Over the years she developed a love for natural fabrics and has mostly felted as a much-loved interest. Kim has also participated in many workshops with well-known Australian and International felters giving her a variety of skills as a felter. She is also a member of Feltwest and has been an advocate and presenter at Common Threads Woven Through Community since its inception in 2018.

Her motto for felting is ‘From Fibre to Fabulous’… “To start with tiny and delicate fibres and watch them turn into a strong and durable piece of fabric or art work is amazing” says Kim.
