Common Threads Woven through Community
HANDS ON WORKSHOP
Have you ever wanted to make something gorgeous to use in a meaningful way around your home? Create something that you absolutely love?
Something to keep your house warm during winter or a welcome splash of colour to brighten a room? Do you have some fabric or clothing that you can’t wait to use for a project?
Join Leisa Antonio at this hands-on workshop where you will create your very own gorgeous individual eco-friendly rag rug made with love.
You will be taken on a journey being introduced to various forms of plaiting and design. The next step will be bringing your personal creation together with being shown how to hand stitch your coils into a beautiful, functional rag rug.
This workshop suits the Common Threads Woven Through Community Programme due to the elements of ‘slowing down fast fashion’ and incorporating repurposed textiles, natural fibres including sisal, twine, wools and yarns into something you will be proud of.
Leisa will share this ancient art of rag rug making with you which has gone from a practical necessity during the 1930’s to a deeply satisfying slow art in the 2020’s!
The process of plaiting & hand stitching is deeply relaxing and inspiring.
Join this four hour meditative practice of coil and slow stitch and connect with a group of others as you immerse yourself into designing and creating your very own unique functional or decorative masterpiece!
Leisa Antonio started her journey in 2000 where she studied a Bachelor of Social Sciences and began working in the Youth & Community Services sector here in Perth, Western Australia.
In 2006, she continued by learning the art of glass fusing, slumping kiln fired art-form under the wing of an artist. Leisa is constantly being inspired by Indian and sustainable creativity and this has continued her interest to explore contemporary and traditional forms of creative arts.
Leisa has further trained in Glass Art, Dressmaking, Mixed Media and Creative Art Workshops and studied a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.
