Common Threads – Woven through Community

HANDS ON WORKSHOP

Do you have a wardrobe overflowing with pairs of jeans which are either too tight, too big, too flared, too straight? Or maybe you’ve come to a stage in your life when tapping into your innate creativity is calling you?

Sometimes we can have an emotional attachment to throwing out our jeans as it feels like we’re rejecting a dear old friend.

Repurpose Your Much-Loved Denim

Instead of taking the jeans along to your local op shop, why not put your creativity and your sewing skills to good use and make a funky denim over-the-shoulder bag? And, once you’ve created one bag and the compliments start to fly in, you could make them for family and friends for birthdays and Christmas as you’ll be given a take home pattern and instructions.

Denim is such a tough, resistant fabric that it’s great for repurposing and in this workshop, Jasmin will show you how, using your sewing machine, to recycle your old jeans into a handy over-the-shoulder denim bag and you can create your very own style!

Jasmin Maddox’s connection with denim, natural dyeing and used fabric evolved from a young age where growing up on a self-sufficient farm and the need for hard wearing fabrics was a must.

Fast forward 25 years later and the realisation that the years of dedication and hard work to achieve success in the corporate world no longer held the value it once did and with the arrival of her son a change of mindset and self was put into motion.

Using recycled materials like denim, pallets and driftwood provides the opportunity for each piece to be truly unique and to Jasmin, and her home-based business, represents that the opportunity to facilitate a change of mindset, repurposing and conscious buying for the local community.
