Join us on International World River Day as we screen the film River Blue is a groundbreaking documentary film that pulls back the curtain on what’s happening to our rivers and asks us to consider – Can fashion save the planet?
Following international river conservationist, Mark Angelo, River Blue spans the globe to infiltrate one of the world’s most pollutive industries, fashion. Narrated by clean water supporter Jason Priestley, this groundbreaking documentary examines the destruction of our rivers, its effect on humanity, and the solutions that inspire hope for a sustainable future.
Through harsh chemical manufacturing processes and the irresponsible disposal of toxic chemical waste, one of our favourite iconic products has destroyed rivers and impacted the lives of people who count on these waterways for their survival.
River Blue brings awareness to the destruction of some of the world’s most vital rivers through the manufacturing of our clothing, but will also act as a demand for significant change in the textile industry from the top fashion brands that can make a difference.

We will show the film then there will be an opportunity after for discussion and reflection about – What now? How can we make a difference?
Dawn Steel, the founder of Common Threads Woven Through Community, will talk about how she heard India Easton, a Year 12 Steiner School Student who presented this topic two years ago as part of her final year, and how it inspired her so much that she decided to launch this cutting-edge annual exhibition which will cut to the core of this grass roots movement that is shredding decades of fashion industry propaganda, hype and environmental abuse.
Dawn will be joined by Jeremy Hurst and Simon Cherriman.
Jeremy Hurst has 13 years’ experience as a classroom teacher and 13 years’ experience in business. Most recently he’s been working in his sharing economy start-up business. He manages his own Eco B&B here in Perth Hills and recently has been active in promoting Save Perth Hills. Jeremy has a passion for environmental sustainability and applies this to his work wherever possible.
Simon our very own local hills environmentalist who is so passionate about making change will be engaging in discussion after the film.
Common Threads Woven through Community is a week-long community engagement project proudly brought to the Perth Hills following on from the World Fashion Revolution week in late April and leading into the local Toodyay Fibre festival in June.
This exhibition includes topics of integrating sustainability, creativity, and traditional hand-crafted wisdom of the ages. These events are designed for you to leave feeling deeply inspired to become part of a continuing impulse of considerable change.
