HANDS ON WORKSHOP
Spend the day in the hands of an amazing fashion designer as she helps you add a nip and a tuck to your garment which will give it a much-needed facelift and make you fall in love with it all over again.
With formal training in fashion design and work experience in bridal and alterations, Mariana Kirova has transformed her love for clothing into a passion for upcycling by reworking the old into new.
Bring along clothing and materials you love but no longer wear and Mariana will help you transform the piece before your eyes!
Depending on the complexity of the design and your pace of work you’ll be able to make one or more unique one-of-a-kind garments to love and proudly to show off.
The workshop will discuss the main points to take into account when refashioning, what to consider, including an overview of effective techniques and upcycling methods for clothing with a demonstration of examples from Mariana’s personal work wherever possible.
You will be able to discuss, plan and work on a unique style of your own and you will also get all the help you need from Mariana on any sewing, designing, styling, final visualisation or whatever the case.
Mariana Kirova has achieved many milestones during her journey to date and she is thrilled to be able to bring some of these to her students and the like-minded creative souls she has the pleasure of working with.
Celebrating the power of making with the respect to the environment, some of the places Mariana has showcased her upcycled collection and one-of-a-kind pieces are at the first Eco Fashion Week Australia, Brisbane’s second-hand fashion festival ‘Revive’ 2017, Jane Milburn’s Slow Clothing Project 2016, at Common Threads Woven Through Community 2018 and a couple of publications in the international makers magazine Altered Couture, USA. She has been an advocate and presenter at Common Threads Woven Through Community since its inception in 2018.
Mariana’s main focus is to keep as many as possible good quality textiles and clothing in circulation as opposed to discarding onto landfill. Her real love and the task she is devoted to is to help, educate and inspire others to learn the skills of sewing and upcycling clothing themselves. She does this by offering an online secondhand fashion website and also encourages people to buy locally where possible.
Common Threads Woven through Community is a week-long community engagement project proudly brought to the Perth Hills.
This exhibition includes topics of integrating sustainability, creativity, and traditional hand-crafted wisdom of the ages. These events are designed for you to leave feeling deeply inspired to become part of a continuing impulse of considerable change.
