Simon is a vibrant and passionate environmental educator, photographer, film maker, ornithologist and environmental biologist and a master at sharing nature stories with adults and children alike. Whether it’s a vivid description of an echidna foraging for termites, a honey eater snuggled in its nest, or a tiny tortoise hatchling in the winter creek, his stories amaze and inspire all around him, young and old.

His dedication to the environmental science of the majestic ‘Wailitj’ Wedge-tailed Eagle will feature strongly in his inaugural photography exhibition. Explore the way he has captured the imagery and the pure essence of each of our six Noongar seasons and linked it to the ecology of this most incredible native bird as well as many other local flora and fauna.

As part of The Sound Temple’s continued practice to revive local culture, connection and lost art forms, the exhibition forms part of our annual community engagement project.

Simon is currently specialising in PhD research which involves recording and documenting the breeding habits of Wedge-tailed Eagles throughout Western Australia, and utilising cutting-edge satellite-tracking methods in his research to study the details of eagle movements and habitat use.

He believes that education is one of the most important tools in conservation and environmental change and is a passionate advocate for raising ecological awareness.
