New Moon in Cancer – A Time to Dance in the Rain

“A dreamer is one who can only find her way by moonlight.” – Oscar Wilde

This time of year, especially here at The Sound Temple, the bush is bursting with joy. Everything outside is covered in rain drops, wood smoke blows its way over the roof tops and the freshness of the air helps us to all breathe more deeply. Life is blooming all around us, even if it is not always visible. The earth is keeping the seedlings warm and safe, the air is alive with the taste of new life and growth and all the creeks are flowing; sending life bubbling along their banks with joyful singing.

In light of the new life and new beginnings running through the earth under our feet, July 3rd marks the arrival of the New Moon, which falls under the sign of Cancer. It also happens to be a total Solar Eclipse.

A Solar Eclipse is just like a regular New Moon where the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun. However, a Solar Eclipse is more powerful because the Moon darkens the Sun. Solar Eclipse July 2019 is a total Solar Eclipse so none of the Sun will be visible. The New Moon represents the end of one cycle and the beginning of a new cycle. A New Moon influence lasts for four weeks but a Solar Eclipse lasts about six months.

Cancerians can be nurturing, home-loving and creative, while also being jealous, manipulative and insecure. They are the homemakers, the ones who listen to their gut feelings, have a strong love for family traditions and make great storytellers. People born under the sign of Cancer love routines and have an incredible knack for making a home almost anywhere. They love big families and being surrounded by those they love. Cancerians are the mother birds and adore having friends and family around for Christmas dinners and cosy, homey get-togethers.

On 3rd July, the New Moon encourages us to take some time to allow ourselves to become close to our friends and family, to take some time to love and cherish those around us. Be tender and kind with those close to your heart. Hug your significant other, invite your close friends around for some warm food by the fire and have a long phone conversation with a family member you haven’t spoken to in a while. Sometimes we become so caught up in our everyday lives that we forget to remind those we love how much we really love them. Take some time to reconnect with those who know you best; your soul sisters and the family you chose a long time ago. Rediscover old family traditions, invite your parents around for a warm meal and teach your kids to make a dish your grandparents taught to you. Your gestures don’t have to be loud of overly colourful. It’s the little things that count.

While this New Moon is a time for tenderness, it is also a time to have fun with those we love. Organise a party, go find some fun, physical activities such as bowling, rocking climbing or have a game of cricket in the park. Find somewhere that’s having an open mic night and go sing some karaoke. Belly laughs and creating memories are good for the soul and for the mind. Take some time to laugh with those you cherish. This New Moon in Cancer is a time for reigniting passion and love for those who are just as much a part of us as our own heartbeat. A body cannot function without its heart. Never forget those who help yours to beat.

While encouraging us to reconnect with our heartbeat, the New Moon on July 3rd also invites us to take a moment to feel at home within ourselves. For most of us, walking through the door after a long day at work can be one of the best feelings in the world. As soon as you close the door you feel at peace. And while feeling at peace and secure in your home is a wonderful thing, being at home within yourself is just as important, if not more. Being at home within your own body is one of the most important things you can do. It will mean you have feelings of love, comfort, security and belonging no matter where you are. When you are at home in yourself, it allows you to feel guarded and protected, but also soft and kind without feeling the need to always be on your guard. While your home may be your safe space, take some time this New Moon to work on feeling at home in your own skin.

New Moon is a time that marks the beginning of a new 28-day cycle and is the perfect time for new beginnings. It is always a brilliant time to start a new hobby, turn over a new leaf or take on a new project. This New Moon is about reconnecting with your friends and family and take time to have fun, laugh and eat good food. And while feeling at home in your home is a feeling almost nothing can beat, being at home within yourself is just as important. That way you feel connected and at peace wherever you are, not just under thousands of blankets on your couch in the fluffiest of socks.

Join us for our beautiful New Moon Sound Healing event with the angelic Kim Echammaal Coull on Friday 5th July. You are your home. Let the love of those around you keep you warm through the long winter months. After all: “life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
