Common Threads – Woven through Community
HANDS ON WORKSHOP
Explore elements of the soul life with needle and thread.
In this workshop we will be investigating some qualities of the soul using needle and thread. Explore with small samples and then create a ‘badge’ with your own personal symbols.
Bring 8-10 squares of fabric of approximately 15 cms. We encourage you not to buy anything new and instead repurpose what you already own. You can use fabric scraps, old clothing, tea towels and anything else you find at the back of the cupboard. Please also bring some sewing materials, threads, needles and scissors. Some things will be provided but be prepared to share.
Anne Williams uses simple materials and her hands to create new forms. She has a life long love of making, using basic ‘domestic’ skills of sewing for her family, knitting, crocheting, weaving, spinning, plant dyeing, felting, simple book making, stitching, drawing with natural pigments and free form basketry. As one of the initial group that started the first Waldorf/Rudolf Steiner school in WA, she developed the craft curriculum and taught at the Perth Waldorf School for many years. Since then she has taught children, adults and community workshops. Recent focus has turned to exhibiting, with a solo exhibition at Mundaring Arts Centre in 2016 and in many group exhibitions.
Common Threads – Woven through Community is a month long community engagement project proudly brought to the Perth Hills following on from the world Fashion Revolution week in late April.
This exhibition includes topics of integrating sustainability, creativity, and traditional hand-crafted wisdom of the ages. These events are designed for you to leave feeling deeply inspired to become part of a brand new impulse of considerable change.
