INDIGENOUS STORYTELLING, SOUND HEALING AND ART OFFER A VITAL LINK TO THE WORLD'S OLDEST LIVING CULTURE. THESE ENRICHING ACTIVITIES ENHANCE WELLNESS AND EDUCATION, FOSTER NATIONAL PRIDE AMONG STUDENTS, AND FORM AN INTEGRAL PART OF OUR COMMUNAL CONNECTION.

The Sound Temple 10th Anniversary

These stories that are shared will demonstrate not only the strength of family and highly developed kinship structure but will also highlight their resilience in responding to historic and contemporary impacts of colonisation.

Children will come to understand that our indigenous communities are strong, resilient, rich and diverse and those present will feel the palpable energy that arrives in the room/area as Uncle Noel brings these incredible dreamtime stories to life!

CARERS OF EVERYTHING

Uncle Noel will lovingly and gently leave a part of his story in each child’s heart as he impresses the very important message that is “For ALL of us to take responsibility for Everything and Everyone – The Carers of Everything!”

SCHOOL INCURSION DETAILS

One of the most important and richest Educational Assets is our link to the world’s oldest living continuous culture through Aboriginal perspectives. This currently can be accessed through these powerful storytelling experiences with Uncle Noel Nannup. With the priority across this nation to connect all people no matter what their background to their nations heritage to create a sense of pride, this event will form part of that connection fabric for the students and staff.

STORY – ART – SOUND

Teachers can re-call this Story, Sound and Art experience to the students at a later occasion to open doorways for further activities and learnings. Through these events we aim to leave the children and staff of all schools with a tangible sense that Aboriginal people have a holistic belief system and that we can all find a spritiual and intellectual connection to the land, sky and waterways.

Uncle Noel will speak parts of his stories in traditional Noongyar language native to the Wadjuk people, this is always captivating for young children to hear these new sounds and has the tendency to keep them engaged as there is an element of suspense.

ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

These incursion activities of which these stories are told, contain rich contexts and thus offer opportunities to embed this Indigenous culture across the learning areas of the Australian Curriculum including language, English, Art, Music etc. Students will hear a chosen story told to them by Uncle Noel, followed directly by a Sound Session presented by The Sound Temple Team which will immerse the participants in the ancient healing sounds of gongs, bowls and the didjeridu.

Schools embracing these special 'Beyond Art Experiences' will feel proud of their participation in this rigorous, relevant and engaging opportunity. How incredible to be part of something so unique and dynamic that has been organically birthed by a group of visionary creatives in order to bring this special event to the school children of Perth.

Testimonial - June 2024

Dear Dawn, Uncle Noel, Elina and The Sound Temple Team,

I wanted to write and express my full gratitude for hosting the Born Wise School Community at the Sound Temple last Thursday. It was our absolute honour and I felt incredibly grateful to be there.

Being able to listen to Uncle Noel speak - and having the children hear his storytelling was an absolute honour and felt very special. The children have been talking about some aspects of his story and on Friday one of the littlest children mentioned Uncle Noel's connection to Geraldton Wax. The Sound Healing was magical and I could see how the children enjoyed it so much. Being part of Elina's vision of this comm-unity art piece and to contribute to the collaborative mandala was beautiful.

We would love to stay connected to the project and community you have built. We would love to extend our offers of help and support in any way we can, when it comes to getting your message out to the world. It feels important to me that we help in any way we can.

Love Gill-Born Wise
