Common Threads – Woven through Community

Join Jane Milburn for this once in a lifetime opportunity to speak with her face to face in a group limited to 35. Jane is travelling directly from over East to us at The Sound Temple to bring her wealth of expertise on this topic to the heart of the Perth Hills Community.

Jane says “Clothing is as essential as food for our health and wellbeing because clothes do for us on the outside what food does inside – they nourish, warm, and engage body and soul. What we choose to wear impacts how we feel and how we present to the world. As conscious eaters are now aware of sourcing fresh whole food and returning to the kitchen – conscious dressers are engaging in the process of learning where and how their clothes are made. Our choices have profound influence – yet sometimes we are too busy to think much about them.”

This particular topic, Slow Clothing is a holistic approach to what we wear that considers clothes in the context of health and wellbeing. As an Australian social entrepreneur Jane has spent five years studying the need to transform a culture of excess to a more thoughtful and engaged approach to clothes.
Jane outlines how Slow Clothing actions can bring wholeness through living simply, creatively and fairly.

Jane Milburn is an accomplished media advisor and communicator with a proven record of effective advocacy for rural, health and professional groups. Jane’s extensive business, media and creative networks provide excellent linkages and outcomes for clients and contacts. Jane is an agricultural scientist, a fellow of the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation, and recently completed postgraduate leadership study at James Cook University.
In 1999, Jane helped reactivate the Rural Press Club of Queensland as a leading agribusiness network and was awarded life membership in 2009. Jane is the founder of Textile Beat, an innovative enterprise that taps into growing interest in ethical and sustainable ways to reduce our clothing footprint. As with the rising interest in home cooking and food growing for health and wellbeing, Jane believes there is a pressing need to rethink our approach to textiles and fashion.

Jane is hosting two evening talks and three daytime workshops during her Perth tour, events not to be missed if slow clothing is close to your heart.
