Common Threads – Woven through Community

We’ve bundled up a two-part event which includes a presentation and sewing machine workshop by local clothing refashion expert and designer Mariana Kirova.

Nip & Tuck Presentation: Monday May 21st 7pm

Mariana will present some of her favourite projects including pieces from the upcycled collection ‘Upside Down’ she made last year for the runway of the first Eco Fashion Week Australia in Perth.

Bring some clothing of your own you no longer wear and get ideas on how it can be reworked and how with a nip and tuck it can be made wearable again. Mariana will discuss how to refashion, what to select, why it is important and where you can begin.

This evening does not involve sewing as such but will get you into much needed creative mode with lots of inspiration and ideas. This can be a stand-alone event or attend both and follow-up with the sewing machine workshop which will give your wardrobe the facelift it’s been waiting for.

Nip & Tuck Sewing Machine Workshop: Wednesday May 23rd 10am

Following on from the Nip & Tuck Presentation, this 4-hour workshop is the opportunity for you to take the next step using the inspiration and ideas to rework your oldies into fabulous newbies. Mariana will be there to help create the best facelift for your upcycled garments.

Bring some clothing that you’d like to nip and tuck along with some buttons, sequins, tassels, ribbons and anything else to finalise the facelift.

This workshop is for those who know how to sew. Bring along your own sewing machine and let the refashioning begin!

Mariana Kirova is committed to reworking and upcycling clothes by inspiring others to restyle and create a quality finish. Having a formal training in fashion design and working in the bridal and special occasion wear, she has turned her passion into respecting the environment by moving into refashioning and upcycling garments already in circulation.

She is thrilled inspire the local community towards a better, sustainable life – by reducing waste and going natural and organic, by reusing, repairing and repurposing in a unique creative way.

Common Threads – Woven through Community is a month long community engagement project proudly brought to the Perth Hills following on from the world Fashion Revolution week in late April.

This exhibition includes topics of integrating sustainability, creativity, and traditional hand-crafted wisdom of the ages. These events are designed for you to leave feeling deeply inspired to become part of a brand new impulse of considerable change.
